Beyond the frontier of their empire lived a nation untamed,
Unconquered by the Romans, Caledonia it was named,
Pictavia north of Hadrian's wall, was a foe of equal ability,
Be it was better to defend a wall and maintain some stability,
Caledonii the original Scots, a well organised tribal band,
With fearsome warriors and very protective of their land,
Before Celtic influences where Scotia will lend its' name,
Lords of subsequent Scotland tarnished the land with shame,
A Gaelic domain of Dal Riata with the Picts formed a pact,
Forming the Kingdom of Alba a little known historical fact,
However in their expansion south, they absorbed Celtic traits,
Becoming known as Scots and leaving it open to perilous fates,
Ce, Fortriu, Fotla and Cate just some of the tribes of the north,
Made a monumental mistake travelling south of the Firth of Forth,
Without Celtic influences I wonder what their history may have been,
Maybe a proud independent nation with a northern capital Aberdeen
