Hey Jack, you made it back!
The night was wet; the mud was red and deep.
The pop flares were bright in the dark jungle night.
Cries came from beyond the wire.
Somehow you crossed the mine field;
 but lucky you the mines were asleep.

Hey Jack you made it back!
It was a few minutes of hell;
and a nightmare it has become.
You took a bad fall and just
missed being on the wall.
 You’re still paying the price, even
though it was forty eight years
ago, tonight!

Hey Jack, you made it back!
But no one noticed and no one cared,
for old soldiers never die, they just fade away!
Hey Jack lucky you, at least you made it back!
