At Waters Edge

The vastness amazes me as I watch freighters on the lake

I see the power and force as the water races toward the beach
powerboats speed by...sailboats seen in the distance
I see traces of land masses shadowing along the horizon

He sits immobile...staring at the lake...his dog at his side
cormerants scim tops of water as seagulls swoop to feed
w
ater shimmers like diamonds as the morning sun beats down
serenity surrounds the body...as the soul rejuvinates

Tears flow down his face as the chill winds pick up...
yet he refuses to abandon his post...the old salt sits on
a small trawler slowly floats by as fisherman try their luck
he watches them avidly remembering days long ago

He has passed his prime...there were no more demands
his time at sea a thing of the past...but he still remembers
sitting by the lake...history a memory of another time
the memories persist...as he continues to reflect
