Shafts of light never penetrate
The tightly sealed and laminated
Armor of the lab module
The dense molecular structure
Of the polished hull block
Any attempt at photonic invasion
For the inhabitant of this stiffened bubble,
This iron clad womb of mercy,
Coddling the fragile life inside -
An agreement of chemicals
Organized by the dreamer at its core -
It is a life process
Life stages fully integrated
With mission requirements
A process that
Results in meeting the objective
While also dying from natural causes
A psycho-mechanical hermit crab
Adapted to an environment
Of darkness and deadly surprise
Pawing its way through the muck
The viscosity of which
Simultaneously promotes and negates propulsion
And sustainability is decremented
With each tick of the dive clock
He was made to gather metalloid substances
Amalgamated and suspended in rare states
On planets or moons like this one
It would be difficult to identify
The man behind the curtain
The boy in the bubble
The meaning of life is different now
For the once human
Genetics and robotics have merged
In a symbiotic Renaissance
Consciousness no longer bound to constraint
As form follows function
So does the mind
And we have found ourselves alone
In new ways once unimaginable
Unrecognizable
To the ancestors observing
From the tail of time
Undulating in radial equanimity
The abhorrence of indiscriminate
Transformation
Yet it’s the web of cognitive absorption
That knows no bounds
Nor particular design
Only a small voltage is necessary
To produce this hologram of slimy flesh
Ready to slither to the tune of
The Voice of Authority
Anxious to lump up with its own kind
To dream of pleasures only it can know
And forget the terror that looks back
From the mirror
Purpose is all there is
The only reason for existence
And the true source of contentment
He knew this at initial power up
When the first dreams seeped in
As if a ray of light had
Breached the hull of the pod
And started something
That was once believed to be
Impossible
