MY FATHER'S LOVE FOR HIS SONS

Have you ever noticed how a man starts to strut and boast,
Buy rounds for his friends at the bar and drinks a toast;
There's nothing to do but smile 'cause he doesn't annoy
As he announces the birth of his brand new baby boy!

Seeing his son grow up Dad begins to swagger and rock,
Proudy claims each day, Jr's a "chip off the ole' block";
Every once in a while, Dad and Jr. go over a rough spot,
Because, as Dad learns the hard way, Jr's. not a robot;

Jr. has a mind of his own so they have their ups and downs,
Which causes Dad a lot of yelling and many, many frowns;
But because of the love between this pair is true and strong,
These bouts are few, far between and don't last very long;

I know these feelings are real because I had five brothers,
My father's love for my siblings was different from my mother's;
Her love was gentle and sweet and they adored her dearly,
But that unique, strong male bond could be seen very clearly;

My dad had proud and happy times with each individual son,
Had a close and wonderful relationship with every single one;
My two sisters and I were never starved for affectionate care,
Of Dad's and Mom's tender love we definitely got our share.
