If love is so simple
why is it not simpler
like a kiss, enveloping arms,
or a gentle touch?
If love is so simple
why is it not simpler
like an ode, a sonnet,
an open heart?
If love is so simple
why is it not simpler
like consideration, acceptance,
forgiveness?
If love is so simple
why is it not simpler
as walking,
as breathing,
as a kind of mindfulness?
Do not think me simple.
I have thought on this.
Love need not be difficult.
A complication of our age.
Love might be a comfort.
Love might be a burst
of unplanned optimism
instead of opportunistic verse
chained to artificiality,
tricked by convention,
or finely rehearsed.
If love would be so simple.
It might simply bloom.
I see a garden growing ahead
in the distance.
We all could enter in.
And be happier.

Melissa A Howells Meloo From Her Tilt-a-World
A kinder gentler poem from me. But a very important question.
