The first poem is not my own. It was written by my niece for her Mother
shortly before her tragic accident. On Highway two Staci was taken from
us much too young by an insane driver committing suicide and crossing the
road to hit her motor home head on. Mom and children were in the car following.
Her poem written earlier to her Mom:
MY MOTHER MY FRIEND:
As I sit and think of you
My mind is flooded with thoughts and memories
I think of all you mean to me
I think of all you have done
But most of all I think of who you are
You are my Mom, my mentor, my best friend
I remembered When I was a little girl
You always told me bedtime stories
Every Christmas you took me to visit Santa
You supported all my endeavors
Be it brownies, piano, flute, gymnastics
Softball, swim team and college
Marriage, children, daycare centers
You were never too busy to be my Mom
As I think of you I realize
I have never expressed to you how much
You mean to me
You were always there when I needed someone
You still are!
You gave me guidance
You gave me confidence
You gave me love
All I can give in return is love
I can only hope someday
My daughter loves me
As much as I love you!
As I stood at her graveside her daughter and son
After burial sent balloons billing in the blue skies
I wrote this:
To soar
To seek
Embrace the skies,
Alas!
No wings have I.
Her walk so gentle
Yet aloft
As a baby bird on it's maiden flight.
Her voice so soft
A mere whisper in the night.
No more beautiful
Woman I must say
Than she
As beautiful coming towards
As the day she went away
Her daughter now grown and in college painted
this poem as an art project. It hangs framed
in my office. At her funeral were many homeless
from the nearby shelter. Staci went weekly to
the tents bring food and clothing to take care
of them. Compassion learned from her mother.
