For All the Years
I think about of all the years,
With the hardships going through life;
That came with the heartaches and tears,
Being hit with toils and strife.
No way could you call it perfect,
Sometimes the smile was a mask;
It was since I could not reject,
The burden of any one task.
I looked to God to help me through,
On ones that seemed out of my scope;
Knowing that He can help me do,
Through faithful giving of more hope.
Of course I would take no offence,
About the times that I saw no light;
And fought alone in my defense,
Resulted with scars from the fight.
There were times that seemed so unfair,
And I knew I could not back down;
Sorry to God that I took a dare,
But felt no choice to rid my frown.
Maybe it was merely a test,
To see what my response would be;
But I felt that I did my best,
With satisfaction guaranty.
Six decades have passed through my time,
And I know there have been mistakes;
Knowing forgiveness for each crime,
I know that God never forsakes.
Even though I have said in prayer,
I still want to be face to face;
With my gratitude that I share,
That God willingly shed His grace.
