A True Australian Champion ( Black Caviar )

T'was in the early hours of the morning, on a Victorian farm at Nagambie,
Helsinge was giving birth to the best horse a country will ever want to see
An equine champion of no equal, few could see the potential still to come,
I read with interest her breeding, she carried my investment from race one,

She did not give me any worries, by five lengths she just blitzed that field,
I told my wife “Here's a future champion” her racing, simplicity concealed,
Next race won by an easy six lengths, a win without having to be let down,
Her jockey merely sat there for the journey, by far his easiest ride in town,

As a three year old injury raised its ugly head, but she still managed to win,
With a pain thresh-hold so remarkable, a racecourse legend about to begin,
Her racing style was unique, so impressive as she raced away with ease,
Lowering herself down to lengthen her stride, then she's gone in a sneeze,

Then as a four year old she took on the best, beating all a sundry in her wake,
Amassing prestigious Group 1 and Group 2 wins, with authority she did stake,
Shirt of salmon with a dice of black dots, became a symbol to the common man,
As big crowds began returning, hoping to watch their champion win if they can,

Described as poetry in motion, an art form on any turf, did grace,
An aura of something unique, Aussie racing history had her place,
She was pointed towards Royal Ascot, in the presence of the queen,
Europeans saw an Aussie marvel, displaying the best that's ever been

Fate again dealt a nasty hand, Black Caviar tore muscle in her hind,
In awful pain knuckled down, a champions courage she had to find,
She still won despite her pain, bad enough to end her racing career,
With months of slow recuperation, a racing return receiving an all clear,

The public welcomed Nellie back, to her final season on the track,
Undefeated to win 25 races, at miserly prices, impossible to back,
Winning the most group races, this true champion we'll not see again,
Black Caviar's now in a country field,a privilege to hang up her rein
