Not bad really we had Elvis and cars that are now classic
I remember when a 1957 Chevy could be parked in the levy
Unlocked and not stolen in a half hour
I remember when aspirin was the drug of choice
And boys were boys and girls were girls
And those that were not were not gay but a little--qu, strange
It doesn't bother me but a friend a different color
Was a friend and it didn't bother him that I was Irish
Now I am called white and they are called black
Even though some of my friends were actually brown
A gang was a group of friends going down for ice cream
We could go to the grocery store leave the car unlocked
with the key in it and come home to an unlocked house
But today things are expensive and everyone is trying to steal
A bum would ask for a dime now he demands you hand over your cellphone
What I like most of all though is the tattoos and nose rings
I had to pay a quarter to go see them in the circus
I find it strange boys are marrying boys and girls marrying girls
But what I miss most about the fifties--Elvis and music i can
understand the words but I like cars with backup mirrors
I miss mostly drive in movies and John Wayne and Elizabeth Taylor
And the day you could watch television with rabbit ears
Today it costs as much to watch television as it did to buy a house
