I found this duck in my back yard
Someone had shot it and it had a bad wing
Now a duck is a sad creature if it cannot fly
My friends all said put it out of it's misery
Ducks are tasty I don't know about mallard ducks
But I became very attached to Ferd
And it was true I had a fenced in back yard
Problems with ducks if you do not know
They are messy and nothing seems to stop the flow
Soon my yard was slippery duck had to go
But then a miracle the magic Ferd was laying eggs
Some would say for a male duck that was absurd
Every morning I would find a giant egg in the yard
Problem is they never did hatch and another mess
Easter all the eggs were colored and in a basket
My father in law thought it a very creative joke
One day Ferd and I were looking up and in the sky a vee
They were Mallad ducks going North you see
And Ferd jumped in my arms to say goodbye to me
And I thought really, good it be, Ferd was faking
So in one motion I tossed him up and off he flew
He circles once my house no longer sad and joined the vee
Every time I see a flight of ducks I wonder--is that Ferd I see?
