ramblers skiffle group, 1956 - 59 (revised)

bert and col played guitar
I played tea-chest base
tubby thimbled washboard
and we practised at his place
when we used to have a skiffle group
in those days when years were long
sometimes the girls yelled and screamed
through every single song
which was quite flattering
although it could be bad
as it didn't go down well
with the local lads
and one hatfield youth club party
I had a pleasant shock
when lily clappison showed me
how she played postman's knock
life was a seamless carpet
stretching endlessly ahead
before alan changed his name from Bert
and bill giles wasn't dead
when we used to have a  skiffle group
in those days when years were long
And I sang out of tune
On every single song
