A GREAT DAY OUT

A GREAT DAY OUT

Today was a real pleasure I must say
I took three of my grandchildren out to play,
We went to the beach it was such a nice day
And there for a couple of hours we did stay.

Sandcastles were built and then knocked down
The kids all laughed when I donned a frown,
Holes were dug with such great haste
As though there wasn`t any time to waste.

Bradley made a sand angel much to his delight
Then said, "Grandma have I done it right?"
Charlie was happy to bury his legs in the sand
And Kieran was there to give him a hand.

We played football and I scored a great goal
Much to Kieran`s dismay the ball did roll,
Bradley laughed when he saw Kieran way off
When I kick a ball on the beach it just takes off.

The kids have been warned time and again
`Don`t play football with Grandma she is a pain
You`ll be gone all day trying to get the ball back
Like the girl in Cornwall who never came back`.

We changed to the frisbee to be on the safe side
And through the air the frisbee did glide,
I threw it to Bradley and it landed round his neck
Thought I better stop and take a rain check.

We decided to walk down towards the sea
The kids were as happy as could be,
We played tick along the way and I was man
But I couldn`t catch Kieran no matter how fast I ran.

Charlie and I made circles in the sand
He loves to do circles he thinks they`re grand,
He was quite happy going round and round
Making circles all over the ground.

He`d head for a puddle that the tide had left
And so, therefore, I had to be very deft,
I had to be quick and make a mad dash
Before he could go splish, splosh, splash.

The children had a good time it has to be said
And I think they were all glad to go to bed,
I had a great day too thanks to my grandkids
And I was also glad to shut my eyelids.
