You have everything and all
The shiniest apple on the tree
Hiding among a riot of leaves
But no one ever seems to mind
Always willing to make the climb
With no thought of a fall

You drift beautiful and careless
To swim lonely among the clouds
So high above regret, so proud

Without reservation you behold
Your conquests as they're bound and thrown
To unforgiving currents--
Here today, tomorrow gone

Bright your star burns
Fast it fades
Leaving you to the dark
That's coming your way--
A sliver of silver
To kiss your wrist
And crimson pearls
For your little black dress--
Nothing for you but the very best

You have all and everything
Holding you from harm
The gods reach out
To touch your palms
And carry you to calm
(for now)

Summer, 2013
