Buggerlugs

Now that I'm getting older I can't always
Immediately find the word i want to say
It doesn't happen very often
Maybe two or three times a day,
But to avoid those sometimes
 Embarrasingly long pauses
My memory lapse at times causes
I substitute buggerlugs
As a replacement word
And carry on the conversation
As though nothing had occurred.
To those folk who know me
This causes little consternation
But for those strangers I talk to
It seems to worsen the situation.
Their eyes seem to glaze
At my communicative ways
So I throw in buggerlugs again just for the joy
Soon after that they seem to employ
Various excuse to be on their way
And I can get on with the rest of my day.
