A year away from football. Grandson is getting back his legs.
Sadly football is a game of injuries. First year, midget football.
They had him up front as a lineman. All the races he was coming
in first. So he was put in as a running back. First carry fiftyfour
yards for a touchdown. Second carry 56 yards for a touchdown.
The run I remember best. It was the start of my knee problems.
Facing double knee surgery Doc had me on crutches. I stood on the
sideline. The team the kids were playing the top football program
in the state. They moved up the field like we were not involved. But
stalled on the one yard line. Brent was handed the ball. First play
13 yards up the middle to the 14. I was talking leaning on the crutches
to the guy next to me. I couldn't believe it. Brent was off and running.
86 yards to the endzone. It was only then I realized I had dropped the
crutches and was racing up the sidelines arm in touchdown position and
yelling you well never catch him right in front of the number one teams
fans. The upset was 21-17.
Second year the quarterback broke his arm. Brent was still scoring touchdowns.
Late in the season He became the new starting quarterback. He completed
9 of 12 passes three for touchdowns. Ironically his backup this year is
the varsity quarterback. Reason, the following year new coaches and they wanted
their sons as quarterbacks and running backs. He was moved to tight end.
He lead the league with 11 touchdown catches. I know longer use crutches.
offense and defense as wide receiver and Safety. The injury in baseball left
him out of football a year. Someone has remembered him as a running back.
Tomorrow night after playing for the varsity friday they are asking him to play
for the JV's. Starting strong safety and on offense running back. My how things
go around. He has been hurt alittle on college recruting. He is still trying to
establish a position. I am prepared to run up the sidelines 86 yards despite
the pain of bad knees.Oh, I am still on the top 100,is the bear night night?
This should quickly disappear so read it fast. I am going to read some poetry while
it is still on the last hundred./dandy
