In Memoriam, Johnny Cash

I just can't believe it's ten years
Since he's been gone:
My life has changed so much
And I've managed to move on.

I still listen to his music
Sing the words of his songs,
The man and his music
Have helped me be strong.

He fought his addictions,
Fought his devils all his life,
Secure in the love of
His family and his wife.

He fought for the poor
For the prisoners as well,
Locked up in prison farms,
Or in their open barred cells.

He was true to the music,
Didn't compromise,
Seemed to see the world
Through his very different eyes.

If there is a heaven
A paradise, or promised land
It sure as hell by now must
Have a great hillbilly band.

Whether as a front man, support ,
Or just standing at the back
Country music had integrity
With Johnny Cash, the Man in Black.
