I FORGOT COLLEGE WAS SO HARD ON YOU!

This guy from high school once told me we were losers
You guys always say it was rough being away from home
And that you missed your first CHRISTMAS being away

He says he and his friends at college missed it too
It was expensive to fly home so we stayed at college
Their parents couldn't afford the price for tickets

I asked him why he felt they had it rougher than us
He told me because most students went home to party
And there were very few parties around the campus

We didn't really have anything to do during break
He said they were totally bored most of the time
And it was the worst time he ever had in his life

I told him that I could imagine how rough it was
It must've been hard to sleep with all that quiet
And all you had to do was drink with your buddies

You're right! It must have been a nightmare for you
We'd been working a mere 10 hour shift during the day
Then we had 2 hours to eat sleep and take a shower

And I wouldn't think about complaining of guard duty
Where we spent our other 10 hours guarding our base
Staving off exhaustion as we watched for the enemy

I guess I never realized how bad it was for you guys
I mean with all the partying when did you ever study?
It must've been totally exhausting experience for you

But what do I know, we were only being attacked by VC
Shooting at us or shelling us with mortars & rockets
Or trying to sneak up close enough to slit our throats

I'm sure it was just a mistake them trying to kill us  
Maybe they didn't mean to shoot down our helicopters
I guess I just forgot how rough you had it at college
