`HAPPY BIRTHDAY` DAD

`HAPPY BIRTHDAY` DAD

You would have been 95 today
So `Happy Birthday` to you I say,
Back in 1918 so many years ago
You set your parents hearts aglow.

A daughter and son your parents had
But then things sure did turn bad,
A childhood illness took her life away
Nothing was the same after that day.

You grew up alone an only child
And just for you your parents smiled,
You grew and in the army you went
To fight the war over-seas you were sent.

You met my Mum before you joined up
A romance that the war could not break up,
During the war you two were wed
Then finally the war was put to bed.

Life moved on and a daughter was born
Yearly 4 years later you had a newborn,
Yes it was another girl this is true
And I am the younger of the two.

Then we grew and we flew the nest
I suppose you can guess the rest,
We soon had families of our own
This was just another milestone.

Six days after your 65th birthday
Mum died and a part of us went away,
Once again our life we had to rebuild
But that gap she left was never filled.

But we still had you for 12 more years
Though time goes fast just disappears,
Then came the day that you left us too
And once again my heart broke anew.

Here we are at that date again
I still miss you and I feel the pain
And there is one thing I would like to add
I`m so glad that you were my Dad.

So Dad `Happy Birthday` is what I say
I remember you with happy memories today
No candles to blow or cards to read
Just a greeting from me to say Godspeed.
