A wonderful idea turned
into, "Who thought of this?"
Portland, city of one way streets
OK, they also have Voodoo doughnuts
Anyone who has been there knows about Voodoo doughnuts
We could drive there in an hour and a half
"Lets take the train!"
Three hours watching endless rain!
Sister, who is afraid of spiders, snakes
street people, airplanes, loves to hike
Not just walk up steep hills
Round curves and slippery spills
Second day toe is purple ankles swollen
She wants to hike around the waterfront
The rain hides tears of unmanly pain
Maybe we could visit Powell books?
Finding it was easy on the left side of street
Only all the streets are one way with no left turns
Six miles later we are going one way the other way
On that side no turns at all
Parking is easy ignore one way signs and dodge
Oncoming cars trying to find away out of the maze
Three days of hiking time for the train ride home
The trip home was easy dead tired our car parked in Tacoma
The city of an unknown aroma--just kidding
All we have to do is get our baggage
"We are sorry we sent your bags to Seattle!"
Voodoo doughnuts are to die for but--!
Finally home the e-mail comes in,
Amtrak wishes to thank you for your business
In answer to your email--it ain't worth the train ride
Even if the donuts are great the train ride was boring
It's about finding my baggage I am exploring.
Next time the train ride I am ignoring
