The older I get the better I wuz
The game at school was marbles
If you remember that you is old
There are allot of people saying,
"You lost your marbles!" Probably true!
Though they were not mine to lose
I kept the ones the other kids left behind
The Rich kids left behind chippies
They liked only pretty bubbly marbles
Stealies meant nothing to them
But Seelies could get bubblies out
Of the circle and often two at once
and I was using their marbles
And they thought me the dunce
I liked steelies and I like chippies
Marbles that is, get your mind out of the gutter!
This one kid was good and I lost all my marbles
School lunches were the fast food restaurant
Finicky kids left apples and oranges behind
I put them and a few hard boiled eggs
In my jacket to take home for Sis's dinner
Caught I would be put in detention
Teacher said I was taking them to throw at kids
In my house you did not waste food
I guess that fat angry woman had never been poor
We didn't have video games, X-box, had land locked phones
My favorite game was "All Star baseball"
It came in a box much like a monopoly box
Little pegs you put a disc player in a spinner
Number one was a home run and a winner
You put a peg in a hole for advancing bases
And the extra pegs somewhere in empty spaces
Each boy in the neighborhood had an all star baseball game
We went to their house when they were home team
We put the names of the Pacific coast teams in a jar
The one you drew out was who you are
I wanted to be the Seattle Rainers drew Hollywood Stars
But I won the league championship took me far
Learned to add and subtract doing batting averages
The least favorite games were called electric football
The players would be set up on a shaky board
The board would start shaking off your runner went
Problem was it was too shaky and runner did not get far
Then there was this box with a light bulb beneath
Offense set his play and then the defense did the same
It was a magical trick you pulled a drawer out
As the light bulb lit up in came the play
If you guessed the defense it went your way
But it got boring setting up and we went outside to play
Ice hockey was fun but this silly dude got too good
I could spin the magnetic thing in each time as i should
Pink pong basketball worked for a spell
Thing the spring under neath began to break oh--ah well
The girls all played with dolls and some boys as well
They weren't called gay then but just considered wimps
Not manly and sports minded like the rest of us gents
Remember that first TV screen eight inches and round
I can still see the screen spinning and the screeching sound
And before Casinos my favorite Indian was a test pattern
It was so new us kids could sit and watch him for hours
Toasted cheese and Tomato soup was lunch of the day
That sounds pretty good I think I go to the kitchen if I may
With all this modern progress I miss the past every day
