 'Inspiration In Thought'

'Writer's Child'

The old year has diminished,
Gone, like the drop of a tear,
To some it brought strife, pain, and sorrow,
To others an abundance of cheer.

It had its ups, as well as downs,
And with it took my moods,
But now it's gone along its way,
Like a pair of worn-out shoes.

I tried my best to flow with it,
As if I rode a raft,
I scratched away with worn-out pen,
Improving on my craft.

The words I chose were on the nose,
My intention true, and hardy,
The finished piece was born from me,
No one could call it tardy.

With pages spread like a young birds' wings,
It made its way into the great unknown,
I swore it stopped, looked back, and asked,
"Are you sure I can do this on my own?"

"Yes," I said, waving goodbye, tears beginning to fill my eyes,
While beneath my breast, my heart beat fast with pride that it has brought me,
For the writer's child, now on its own without my hands to guide it,
Will bring to those who chance to read, a gift in word for all to see.

~ Another year gone in the span of time. How incredibly fast they go.
Often, we find ourselves thinking back over the year just past with an
assortment of thoughts, and emotions, finding ourselves wondering if we
had it to do over, would we do it in the same manner as we did? I don't
know, maybe we would, maybe not, but still the thought can be there. It
certainly is for me. I cannot really say that 2013 was a great year for
me -- that is in a personal sense -- but not too bad professionally,
and for this I am truly grateful. I saw the final fruition of the best
story I have yet to write, 'Passions in Paris: Revelations of a Lost Diary.'
I hope it will bring as much enjoyment to those who read it, as it did for
me to write it. Such was the inspiration for the writing of this first poem
of 2014. ~ R.B.
