Poetic-Verses
'' I Will Never Ignore ''
I never had playstations or a mobile phone,
I knew not the meaning of a dialling tone,
My skills at listening where what I had to hone,
The three Rs were placed to the fore.
It was classed as a luxury if you had a car,
We normally walked when travelling afar,
A trip in a taxi made you feel like a star,
There was a world out there to explore.
A bathroom was a luxury, which may sound funny,
Washed in a sink whether raining or sunny,
You took it for granted your parents had money,
As there was always a meal in store.
The outsider of a loaf you would never forsake,
Or any of the cakes your Mother would bake,
Dracula would never have been given your steak,
Your heart on your sleeve you wore.
We were taught to live within our means,
As for food we all hated our greens,
Our favourite meal was eggs, chips and beans,
With bread it was made to adore.
Everything we required our parents bought,
Work hard and prosper is what we were taught,
How our parents managed wasn't given a thought,
If short of sugar you asked next door.
Respecting your elders was classed as the norm,
With their rules you had to conform,
If you were cheeky you'd face a storm,
Bad behaviour you were taught to deplore.
Life was an adventure, which had to be tasted,
Not one moment of time was ever wasted,
Within our minds the message was pasted,
Never look at life as a chore.
The hours in a day were just not enough,
By the end of the day we all looked like scruff,
Nothing in life was ever too tough,
We didn't know the meaning of bore.
The television was classed as an adult toy,
When their programmes were on you did not annoy,
On rare occasions we were allowed to enjoy,
Otherwise we were off out the door.
You moaned and groaned when it was time for bed,
Getting shouted on filled you with dread,
Your parents you'd have loved to behead,
As under your breath you swore.
I have everything I need due to my Mum and Dad,
Though they have passed I can still feel glad,
The lessons they taught me were a launching pad,
Their wisdom,
' I Will Never Ignore '
