Some write poetry to ease their pain,
Express their anger or feelings of disdain,
Ultimately poetry keeps them sane,
They enjoy doing what they do.
It can ease pressure when feeling depressed,
Lift your spirits when you are stressed,
All our feelings at one point must be expressed,
Your life the pen can review.
Others write words just to tell a tale,
Though close to the wind they sometimes sail,
Fact or fiction it's their holy grail,
They just love to see it through.
The written word is a powerful tool,
Being very careful is the golden rule,
It can uphold the truth and expose the fool,
Take care or they may sue.
As individuals we are all unique,
We all have our own special technique,
Never ever be afraid of any critique,
Don't allow it to cause any ado.
In poetry riches are very rare,
For working for nothing you need to prepare,
Promises from publishers you need to beware,
The one who'll be paying is you.
Writing poetry is the stairway to the soul,
Bringing comfort and making others whole,
While some will criticise others will extol,
That much I do know is true.
Never be afraid to express what you feel,
Your true feelings you must never conceal,
Your inner self it will reveal,
Express your own point of view.
Please don't ever be tempted to cheat,
Writing your own work cannot be beat,
Your own finished article is a wondrous feat,
Plagiarism is something you'll rue.
