The Unicorn and the Lion

Subjugation is a terrible deed, the ultimate oppression,
Subtle laws a country makes, centuries of suppression.
U.K. is a marriage of convenience, all control held by one,
Time to undo the mistakes of what centuries have now done.

Manipulated from London, one eye on the purse strings,
Biased legislation feeds the myth that inferiority brings,
Scotland always the stoic nation, a chance to atone its pride,
As 2014 vote approaches, our nation has a right to decide.

It is still not a level playing field, exiles feelings still run deep,
Their one chance of a vote denied, opinions to themselves keep,
Scaremongering the theme of the day, as the PM bends the truth,
Trying to influence the insecure, before they entered the booth,

History teaches a lesson, of hidden agendas and subtle deceit,
I will point out a simple few, London parliament I call the cheat,
Many the Scots are still blindly unaware, such contempt is so rife,
Allowed to function in political ignorance, accepting of daily strife,

During Elizabeth's coronation, our coat of arms was quietly changed,
The equality of the Lion and Unicorn was inexplicitly re-arranged,
The regal Unicorn of Scotland, with a crown proudly upon his head,
Its now anchored round his neck and chained to the ground instead,

Elizabeth the second of England, for Scotland none went before,
Forced to accept allegiance to a title, Elizabeth 1 they still abhor,
Elizabeth first the butcher, had Mary Queen of Scots wickedly slain,
But the barren queen died leaving her throne for a Scottish reign,

Many Scots are unaware, "God save the Queen" the sixth verse,
They wouldn't sing it for her, if they discovered the military curse,
Orders for General Wade, The rebellious Scots you need to crush,
Treading our dignity under their feet, then discarded like a brush,

I hope they use their vote wisely, our nationalism peacefully done,
Gained through the ballot box, their independence gainfully won,
Mistrusting southern politicians, their history weighs them down,
Then like the English Lion, A Scottish Unicorn will wear his crown
