Poetic-Verses

'' It's Our Principles They Betray ''

When I was younger money was tight,
No welfare crutch to make things right,
No cash? A candle provided the light,
We lived from day to day.

My Mother and Father worked very hard,
We held them both in high regard,
When required they'd go that extra yard,
To ensure we were all okay.

In the winter we burned coal on the fire,
When that ran out old wood we'd acquire,
Nowadays that would be considered dire,
We survived come what may.

If the gas ran out it was toast on the coals,
Plastered with butter to fill hungry souls,
On their payday you were given filled rolls,
They'd be devoured without delay.

Central heating in house just did not exist,
Cotton pyjamas were top of the list,
A thick woolen blanket soon cleared the mist,
The cold never caused us dismay.

We were all taught the meaning of respect,
Unruly behaviour they'd soon correct,
Someone in need they would never neglect,
God help us if we caused any affray.

Mister and Missus our elders were called,
If they acknowledged you, you were enthralled,
We were easily pleased very rarely appalled,
You avoided being led astray.

Asking for assistance was a last resort,
It would leave you feeling you'd fell short,
Your views on life it would distort
At times you did not have much say.

Nowadays some people want everything now,
They see the taxpayer as their cash cow,
This misuse of our back up we must not allow,
