Enslaved by fish -
for testing the waters
they swarm in pairs
and walk about with dainty shoes
sharing secrets incased in bubbles
and spoken under water
So here I stand
In a forest of rippling kelp
reaching for a mythic sun while
my feet are bound in little crystals
whose facets are like mirrors
to the tiny incantations
bouncing around inside
Prayers mumbled to candles and deities
and punctuated with hacking
hand motions
they multiply in number
and collide with one another angrily
but my angelic spirit is strong
and shines a flaxen glow
I have come from a burning star
red and hot and
far beneath this hazy envelope
but as a glowing ember slowly grows cold
My time here is limited
so drink from this cup
for it will not pass this way again
contentment is only a fleeting moment
bronzed into a fond memory
and heralded as a noble quest
a flight of fancy
from the point of no return
to be lost without reference,
a bubble in a tide of bubbles...
Still, they pucker their lips and wiggle their tails
their opaque eyes streaming information
to a one track mind
yet these dark portals are full of sadness
and the lonely regrets of past excess
they beckon forgiveness
as they accommodate their insatiability
and appease the hunger that is their purpose
So I will glow until the tide has changed
and the murky bottom feeders
are exposed in the morning sun
the kelp will fall about me as linen
dyed in the green of Spring
I will rise as corm from the muck
and when Sol has reached his apex
I'll leave in the breath of a flower
wafting westward into an amber vista
