old tree
whose many branches have fallen
off
by wind by saw in rain
you tower over your
fellows
in spite of
loosing what you've gained
and still are
steadfast
not vain
old tree
old tree
you don't look down
you seem to smile
not frown
and
your many gnarled octopus limbs
maneuver and reach and grow
you seek the light or
the stars
anything that glows
old tree
Old tree
only the tops of you
remain untouched
that parts of you that bend
and sway and
are loved so very much
by weary birds and butterflies
old tree
old tree
I hear your body moving
as you serenely contemplate
and sigh and keep your eyes
fixed
towards heaven.
