A Day Spent Together At The Sand Hills Of Jamestown
distant thunder in
dark grey skies
we see ourselves
sometimes from others eyes
I see it now
in her found sketch book
a day spent together at the
sand hills of Jamestown
over the years
so hard I've tried
to differentiate
but its been a kind of lie
I see myself now
in her found sketch book
a day spent together at the
sand hills of Jamestown
here on one torn page
in scribbled hurried hand
my impatient drawing
of black-eyed Susan's
pushing up through the
arid sand
and on the next page
carefully
both the flower and its wide expanse
a day spent together at
the sand hills of Jamestown
and on every subsequent page
another searing example of her memory
rendered in succinct detail
preserved tenderly
a day spent together at
the sand hills of Jamestown
how long its been since
that time has long passed
but in her drawings she's
made my memories last
the thin disguise between us
is gone at last
resolution contained here within and
captured by her eye and exacting pen
a day spent together at
the sand hills of Jamestown.
