At the ball games yesterday
We stood proudly to salute the flag
Everyone does it their own way
Some just stand some with hand over heart
Dandy stands in full salute until the song is over
Memorial weekend I always think of Grandpa
I have never shied away from my life
The poverty growing up under abuse
The rock in it all was my adopted Grandpa
You see he never had children of his own
In the war effort he was a shipbuilder
He wanted to serve in the military
But his work in the hold of a ship too important
Saturdays and Sundays and not all them
Were his only days off long hours of work
On his lap or by his side we watched the games
When the flag was raised Grandpa and I
In our living room stood at attention saluting
I never forgot his passion for America
So at games if you see one man saluting at attention
That well be me in honor of my Grandpa
