MY WORLD IS NOT THE SAME AS YOUR WORLD

Photobucket

My world is not the same as your world
For most people have many good memories
They've had many good times and laughter

Their world has been a very peaceful one
They'd gone on to college and good careers
They've enjoyed the fruits of their labor

They have gotten married and raised kids
Watching them laugh and playing together
Going off to college as they too had done

Sharing all their great times and memories
And places where they had gone to as well
And when tired they will sleep peacefully

My world is not the same as their world
In my world I didn't go off to college
My choice was either one or the other

One was being drafted into the U.S. Army
The other to enlist in the U.S. Air Force
At least that way I might have a choice

If you were drafted you had no choices
You became what they wanted you to be
But if I enlisted I would have choices

In the end though I still went off to war
I didn't party like some did at college
I was to busy trying to survive the war

After the war I got married and had kids
We watched them play in our peaceful town
We watched them laugh and grow older too

They went to college and have their careers
They have their own families now as well
They both have had good times and memories

My world is not the same as their world
For in my world there are these memories
But these memories are ones I don't want

They are of times and too many things seen
The deaths of so many people from that war
The insanity has been burned into my mind

When I am tired and need a restful respite
It is something I have not had since 1968
If I sleep for too long the nightmares come

While others remember their peaceful lives
I'm still consumed and haunted by memories
Of the deadly year when I was 20 years old
