 Elsie`s Poetry

DO YOU REMEMBER?

DO YOU REMEMBER?

Do you remember with what you used to play?
We didn`t have much to amuse us all day,
A ball, some chalk and a top and whip
And maybe a rope with which we could skip.

We loved to play tick and hide and seek
These simple games we`d play week after week,
`Pretend` was a game for which we used our brains
We never had games that plugged in to the mains.

Although we had very little it seemed much more
As it brought us kids together that`s for sure,
We met in the open air face to face
We`d play marbles and even had a race.

Now the kids all play from within their rooms
Their playground now seems to be their bedrooms,
They interact now through the X-box or such like
They talk now through no more than a mike.

They put batteries in toys or plug them in
That is when their fun can begin,
Everything is done for them the games are set
Without batteries or elecy I bet they would fret.

No imagination is needed for the kids to play
The need for imagination has been taken away,
They just press keys and try to beat the screen
Will their social skills suffer remains to be seen.
