Compassion

You stand there with

The arrogance of youth

Protesting in support of

Your version of the truth:

You call me baby killer

And vilify my name

But I wear my uniform

Without any shame,

And remember my friend

The fact that you are free

Was bought with the lives

Of people like me.

So I’ll try to step around you

If you’ll kindly let me by

And I won’t engage you

With your reasons why

You treat me with

Such a bad attitude

Nor show any signs

Of any thanks or gratitude.

I chose my way

Voluntarily made my choice

So people like your can

Freely exercise your voice.
