 'Inspiration In Thought'

'Threshold of Loss'

Again I stand on the threshold of loss,
Staring into the stars while thoroughly engrossed,
Searching for reason, within the time that has lapsed,
And feeling your impact still striking my path.

It has always been said 'be careful what you wish for',
Do not temp fate, nor laugh in its face,
For the choices you make, you should make with awareness,
And above all else, conduct all with true fairness.

If you seek a friend, you seek kindness, and care,
A friend that will listen, without judgment, or fear,
And when a friendship is put to the ultimate test,
A true friend will stand fast, and be there to the end.

How can you leave, feeling you must
After grinding my heart into grains of fine dust?
And during all this, turn your back, and believe
I've done nothing but plot, with intent to deceive.

You were the one who turned to me,
You sought me out, and for why, I can't see,
Was it to use me, abuse me, or was it simply a game?
But regardless of why, you should feel totally ashamed.

The logic behind what I've written, thus far,
Is truthful, and honest with a touch of bizarre,
And life will continue to dish-out its curves,
But a friend who is false gets what ere they deserve.

~ Friendship, is an English word which defines a relationship of mutual affection
and good will, harmonious co-operation. I am certain the definition is the same in
any language. To me, a friend is someone whom you share things with, good times,
even bad, but through it all a friend is there for you as you are for them, you
can trust each other, and you love each other. You do not seek out someone, call
them your friend, and then shut them out for whatever reason is happening at the time.
Maybe my perception of a friend is totally my own, I don't know, but somehow I feel that
my perception is shared throughout the world. To those seeking a friend, 'be' a friend,
or do not seek one at all. The topic of friendship, the pros and cons of it, was the
inspiration for this poem. ~ R.B.
