Welcome to My life in the shadows

THE FARE

I should learn
To ride
In more quiet ways
I guess.
I read books
From back to front now,
Like pictures in magazines
Page by page.
I’m riding the train uptown,
Which at this corner,
Or that
Makes sudden stops.
A lady in a hurry rushes in
Hoping for a seat,
She looks
A lot like you.
I watch the flashing street lights
Rush by
One by one
With love interest in my eyes,
And why not?
Should I lower my gaze
And pretend to read
With a greater interest
When it was she
Who paid the fare?
