I understand what it means to feel pain,
No matter what you do or how much you pray it only remains.
I understand what it means to have big goals and dream huge dreams
And your reality is far from it or at least that's how it seems.
I understand how it feels to encourage everyone around you,
Yet when you need someone there's no person to help pull you through.
I understand what it means to grieve over a loss,
You want to talk—yet know not what to say and refuse to share feelings that could be temporary and/or false.
I understand how it feels to do your best to be kind,
To everyone you meet yet kindness returned you do not find.
I understand how it feels to love a man
Give your all and yet alone you still stand.
I understand what it means to be married yet alone,
No matter what you do or say no love is consistently shown.
I understand how it feels to have kids and need some quiet time.
If they keep acting out, you'll whoop their behind.
I understand how it feels to work hard
And get no appreciation—not even a thank you card.
I understand what it means to feel stressed
To the point you think your life is meaningless.
But there was something I had to learn,
God can give beauty for ashes even when its undeserved and unearned
Because of His unending love, mercy, and grace
If you repent He can change anything as long as you seek His face.
So now, I understand how it feels to love and be loved in return
To share life with a wonderful person in whom your heart constantly yearns.
I understand what it means to reassess your life
Look at where you are and want to be and press on instead of give up the fight.
I understand how it feels to have hope again
Although people let you down—Jesus is a friend.
I understand how it feels to be compensated
Even if not on this earth, it matters little, earthly treasures are highly overrated.
I understand how it feels to be blessed to be a mother,
God entrusted me with lives—He could have easily chosen another.
I understand what it means to walk in purpose
My destiny in life is now beginning to surface.
I understand what it means to be up and down
I've learned whatever state I am in to be content whether abase or abound.
I understand how it feels to have dreams that come true
with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in Him there is nothing I can't do.
