Monthly Mess And Meeting

The kettle is quietly singing
The gang are waiting for a brew
Mostly NATO standard needed
For this assorted motley crew.
There's Gunners and Tankies,
PBI and Ex Boys in Blue,
And somewhere in the corner
A Royal Navy rating or two.

There's  Range Stew on the stove
Thanks to the ex Army Catering Corps
Though ingredients are more usual
Than some of those of days before.
There is good humoured
Barracking flying to and fro
But everybody here knows
Just how far they can go.

This is the monthly meeting of
The Veterans Support Centre
You have to have served your
Country to be allowed to enter
And they range in experience
And they greatly range in age,
All have been through the mill
Most in combat at some stage,

All are here as Volunteers
Dedicated to helping one another
As well as caring for any needful
Veteran sister or brother.
The language maybe colourful
When there's fat to chew
But there's a real comradeship
As they wait for chaw and brew.

This is a group of Veterans
Each one damaged in some way
But they form a band of spirit ready
To support each other night or day.
The kettle is quietly singing
The gang are waiting for a brew
Mostly NATO standard needed
For this assorted motley crew.
