Months of morbid summer weather.
Open the blinds & windows, let in the light.
Its Australia day today, raise the flag!
Unfurl the red, white & blue adorned by the Southern Cross.
We gather today to honour, who we are.
In a very relaxed way.
We’ll splash at the beaches, BBQ with family,
Lay in the sun. Beach cricket for fun!
Some health upstarts will run and swim.
Other will gather for pointless records,
Laying on floating plastic thongs, it’s just our way to behave.
Some will gather at the formal to be made citizens.
Binding them to Wattle & green leaf. Sealed by Emu and Roo.
Their pride surely they cannot hide.
Towards afternoon the baggy greens
Slip on their Southern Cross caps, ready to bat.
Adelaide has the crowd with plastic pools & anything helping to stay cool.
As the Sydney Harbour fleet of boaters head for home.
Wrapped by flag not tattered or torn,
It’s ones choice to fight or if you like burn!
Don’t spoil the day as your grandma would say!
Into the fading light, we relax knowing Australia is a welcoming land.
Come take a stand in the city and sand.
Or just listening to a country band.
As sun sets on Circular Quay where else would you want to be?
Images of our troops in Iraq thinking of OZ ,
A land flood light by Southern Stars.
This is Australia to me.
