If I was allowed a vote
I would have voted
with the majority
I inherited in my genes
Alcoholic created insomnia
My brain often fell asleep
This is why today
You will often find me anti drugs
Don't tell me you were addicted
I really do not care how
You destroyed brain tissue
You see on some things I may
not have been the brightest kid
The part of my brain working
I put to work and prove them wrong
I rose slowly above my peers
Many who were given a head start
Alcohol drugs broken marriages
High school was a grind college
A test of my will to succeed
I took the jobs others thought beneath them
I loaded buses swept flower from room to room
This college educated could handle a broom
As a medic I had to study hours
Words flowed in one ear and out the other
But I finished number two in my class
I am not at this point patting my back
What they call this is middle class
I want that kids struggling to know
Giving up is not the way to go
And the struggle goes on daily
Just when you think you have it made
The first signs of Alzheimer's
I forgot what this poem is about
TEE Hee! I own my own business--Me!
And that is success don't you agree?
