'Six Years'

Old friend, I sit today
Across the aisle from the booth we so did frequent,
And as I stare at the empty seat
It brings to mind time which fleets.

<><><><><>

It's been six years since you have passed
At times it feels like yesterday,
Yet the laughter that we so did share
Still resonates, within the air.

But now, as I think of that
My heart still feels the loss that's yet to pass,
And along with it, the need to leave
The hurt, that comes each Christmas Eve.

~ This short poem is bitter-sweet in many ways, for
it elicits my feelings of loss and sadness which engulf
me on this night, and have for these last six years since a very dear
friend unexpectedly passed on Christmas Eve, 2008. She
was a rock in my life, a stellar friend, and an unforgettable
mentor. We are extremely fortunate whenever someone like
this touches our lives, and for me it leaves a space that will never be filled.
"I miss you, 'E'". ~ R.B.
