one night
with the blinking eye of God
peering down on me
I waded through the darkness
laden with burdens
literal
figurative
my shoulders slouched
my heart was heavy
the night was a whirling mist
I was a phantom haunting
the darkness
that clung to me
but then the night shifted
my head lifted
I saw the blinking beacon
of God's watchful one eye
I caught myself
stopped in my steps
felt the cold seep in
felt the silence wrap its arm's around me
heard the wind whispering in my ears
knowing very well the wind tossed the world
in spite of everything
in spite of myself
I felt
something stir within
I glanced up into the blinking eye of God
my parcels spilled across the wet ground
and I became more wild
as the human part of me
was absorbed into God's great eye
as I scurried away
I tucked
my long glossy red tail behind me
this night magic
I was to repeat
every month
on the first sliver
of the new moon
when the blinking eye of God
would always make of me
something new
something beautiful
something wild.
