Forever seemed possible
seemed real
so tangible it felt
like I had it
within my grasp
holding my breath
and making a wish…
envisioning a place
for me with you
we could not be
more compatible
more attuned
more made for
each other
you said it
and made me believe
had me convinced
that soul mates
really do exist…
but like the tooth fairy
and Santa Claus
now it feels like
those myths, all lies
told to a fragile heart
are nothing but
a broken
promise
Cupid missed
his target
love shouldn't
end like this
your words
have turned
my hopes
to stone
