I would start first with our Veterans
My primary care is the Veteran's Hospital
But the nature of my fall the closest trauma center
On my journey I met many dedicated Caregivers
For this writing one Doctor I will single out
Throwing aside my walker, I was seen at VA clinic
The Doctor an ex combat Marine corpsman
We shared the fact both took our corpsman training
At Great Lakes Navy Hospital in Chicago
I didn't impress him saying I finished number one,
of the Marines, Airman, Navy taking the bivouac
He looked at me and said, "You ran it twice right?
It wasn't because you were Air force beating the Navy
The military hates showoffs!" I laughed, yes I ran twice
Everyone else was in bed when I finally finished."
Then he said something touching, "You are my brother!"
"Anyone who signs up to serve offers his life for his country
and I honor you for that, now brother, that does not mean
I am going to baby you. What were you at your age doing
walking down stairways backward. I'm here to get your
head out of politely your behind." It is hard to feel
sorry for your injuries when you realize how stupid you were.
Falling down for Seniors is a number one cause of death
Number two, "Why did you wait two days to call an ambulance
Do you realize with your concusion you could have had a brain seizure?"
