Dreams, they do not die

So many times I told myself,
It was not meant to be,
And in those few but muttered words,
I killed another dream.

The dreams of youth died quickly,
Many years ago, surrendered to pure arrogance
Nothing more or less.
Still others never had a chance,
I surely saw to that.

And yet the dreams, still lived on,
In spite of all my efforts.
I heard them while I slept at night,
Or when I was awake. ...
I saw them in the eyes of others,
and too my very own.

The one that has haunted me,
And never would surrender. ..
IS the one before you now,
Sometimes the dreams we thought were lost,
Will not let them die......
