Winter chills have taken their leave
Freezing temperatures are a thing of the past
Look out of your window because Spring is here
Darkened mornings have disappeared at last
Lofty clouds drift the sky as blue as can be
The wakening air has a sweeter taste
Birds dip and dive escorting the newness
There can be no more wonderful place
While earth breaks open and bulbs push forth
Trees stand patient to wear their new coats
Hibernation is over for some small animal friends
And beside me are heavenly hosts
Huge seas of yellow outstretched to the eye
Timid daffodils suddenly take centre stage
My favourite sight as the new season is born
Fragility is torn from the cage
Slender leaf point them forward to smile at the sun
A life brief but so poignant and adored
Swaying together, fragrant heads nod as one
My heart is uplifted and soars
