Exactly Like My Mama Did

Did those words come from me?
Oh goodness, no, I wouldn't kid!
But can't you see how much I sound
Exactly like my mama did!

Those were her words, of course,
So exactly...so precise.
She always told me that one day
I would be using her advice.

O, indeed, I love to cook!!
But, then, I guess you've noticed, too,
That I am making every dish
Exactly like she used to do .

I use garlic pods galore
And so much pepper is poured in!
"It's got to have a lot of spice,"
She'd always tell me with a grin.

I stared into the bathroom mirror
And, all at once, it did occur
To me that someone staring back
Seemed to look a lot like her!

And, gee, here I go once more
Tuning in classic TV.
I can't seem to get away
From those shows she watched with me.

I Love Lucy and Gunsmoke...
Bonanza and The Twilight Zone...
But every weekend of my youth
The Grand Ole Opry was turned on.

She had a thing for Ernest Tubb...
I guess he rubbed off on her kid...
Because I really love his voice...
Exactly like my mama did!
