Memorial Day Memories

With hands upon our hearts,
We will let our memories yield
Toward the many fallen soldiers
On some far off battlefield...

To row upon another row
Of neatly placed white stone...
Adorned with Stars of David
Or a Cross to set the tone.

But whether Jew or Gentile...
Whether black, brown, red, or white...
Some  mother's son or daughter
Had to go down in the fight.

O, this is the cost of freedom!!
 Some sad father will reflect
Upon a moment lost in time...
 Some old memory will inject

A fishing trip...a football game...
A young, tow-headed boy...
Life ended on some foreign soil
To never more enjoy.

Some mom recalls the cookies
She once helped her child to bake.
That memory will fill her eyes
And cause her heart to ache.

Some wife will walk her daughter
Down the church aisle to be wed...
Daddy could not be here today
Because, you see, daddy is dead.

Buried beneath the stars and stripes
Which we wave for freedom's way.
Yes, many are the tears that fall
On this and each Memorial Day.

John 15:13

Greater love has no one than this, that someone
lay down his life for his friends.

Psalm 116:15

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death
of his saints.

Psalm 11:3

If the foundations are destroyed, what can
the righteous do?”
