Happy Birthday To My Afton

Your arrival slid right by the 4th...
You showed up one day late!
But we did light one last sparkler!
You gave us cause to celebrate!

I pulled back pretty folds of pink...
...Someone tucked you in so snug...
To gaze upon your tiny frame...
Then I felt my heartstrings tug.

There in all your newborn sweetness...
Smelling baby powder clean...
Was the cutest little baby girl
This grandma had ever seen!

Your little forehead wrinkled as
I rained kisses on your face.
If babies can sense love at all...
Love was sensed in that embrace.

Then, seems like almost overnight,
You were crawling on the floor...
You knew where the Cheetoes were kept...
You'd crawl into that cupboard door.

I'd dress you up in pretty things
Little dresses trimmed in lace...
But ,those Osh By Gosh overalls,
Were much more to your taste.

I watched as you grew up to be
Such a sweet and lovely girl
Someone I was so proud of...
Someone who blessed my world.

Nothing's really changed because
I still feel the same old way...
I thought I'd tell you in this poem...
Baby, have a great, God-blessed Birthday!!!
