In Grade school the teacher asked,
"What is the greatest poem ever written?"
I said, "Jake and Jack went up the hill."
She said, "it is Jack and Jill."
Today she needs to get with the program
Those dudes were gay
Third grade she asked again
"Something about a dog or a kitten
looking smitten for a lost mitten.
The dog was clumsy fell down the hill
Banged into an egg that became an omelet.
I won't even bite on the wolf blowing down
the three pigs ham--let
Older not wiser the teach was talking about
a dude name Shakeyspear about him not clear
I'm into Rock and roll not classical jazz
looking cornfused she asked once again,
"What is the greatest poem ever written?"
I said, "No question, has to be Casey at bat!"
Next I was in high school the same question asked
I said, "If" by Rudyard Kipling why in case I had
to recite the poem from memory with a cheat sheet
If I had to sing it, "The Star spangled banner"
I'm giving away a secret I have a bad lisp singing
My voice between a frog croaking and coughing smoking
In college I was much more mature, I said, "Oh the
comfort" It is about emotions and feeling safe with
someone really cool. I really get into poetry
I think anything written on poetry.com is the
Greatest poem ever written if it comes from the heart
