I took a walk down to the river,
I let the water touch my feet
The cold, it made me shiver
But you were there with me.
You told me I was strong
I told you you were wrong
(It was always you -
It was you all along)
Then I went out to the desert
Where the sunlight burned my skin
And the heat, it made me quiver
Like there was nothing left within
You told me I was strong
I told you you were wrong
(It was always you -
It was you all along)
And then you called me angel
I asked you how could you tell
You said you'd seen my
It was nothing I could ever sell
You said it glowed so damn bright
That it fought back the night
I just laughed and said no way
Anything could be that light
Then I went out to the ocean
And the waves, they tore my hair
And I thought I was a goner
But I'd forgotten you were there
You told me I was strong
I told you you were wrong
(It was always you -
It was you all along)
And I am so afraid to say
How much I love you every day
I can't tell if you know
You make my sadness fly away
I took a walk into a mys'try
I still don't know what we will find
But if you feel like trading hearts, love
Then know you already have mine.
